These are some of the most common questions and answers we get about ordering from us here at Birmingham Tin Box. Hopefully you can find an answer to what you were looking for here, but if not then please do get in touch via our contact page and we will be sure to get back to you as soon as we can.

What are metal pails used for?

Our tin-plated steel metal pails can be used for the safe and secure distribution of a wide variety of solids, paints and liquids.

What are spring clips?

Our steel spring clips are small clasps that you arrange in a triangular formation to safely and securely attach the lid to a lever lid tin.

What does ‘lacquered’ mean?

‘Lacquered’ is a process whereby a lacquer is applied inside of the tin to prevent rust from occurring if water-based products were indented to be placed inside.

What are UN Approved containers?

A UN container is a certified container for the transportation of Dangerous Goods. The most often used container is a fibreboard box. However, there are also drums, jerricans, and others. UN certified containers must pass tests to obtain their certifications, (pressure tests, stacking tests, drop tests, and others).

Approved packaging in most cases (the main exemption being limited quantities) must be certified to UN standards. The international agreements for the carriage of dangerous goods require packaging to be of a design-type certified by a national competent authority. This involves testing the packaging to ensure its suitability for the carriage of certain dangerous goods. Such packaging’s are often referred to as “type-approved” or “UN certified”. Such packaging is marked in particular ways, prefixed by the UN logo and followed by codes.

Can I hot fill my product?
